Why the Attention Economy is a threat to Christian maturity
Last week we began discussing attention, and how it is the most precious commodity you have. I believe the great work of your life is to become who God has made you to be in Christ. Your role is to offer your attention to God through prayer and reading of his Word and to live in such a way that your innate unpremeditated reactions are fruit of godliness, the outworking of the Holy Spirit from a life of love.
This week we’re looking at a pervasive obstacle to the great work of our lives: the Attention Economy.
Over the weekend I was in Colorado Springs with CRU at their winter retreat, and we spent an hour together on this topic. In our conversations, I was reminded how struggles with technology are shared across generations because we have a common desire for pleasure, and the Attention Economy deals in pleasure at a brain-entrancing level.
